Ruth’s first degree in textiles at Hornsey College of Art London and guild membership of RIBA informed her progression to an MA in Fine Art at Canterbury Christ Church University.
She works from her studio in Boughton under Blean in Kent and The Print Block, Whitstable. She has exhibited extensively, both in the UK and abroad, most recently at Bankside Gallery The Mall Galleries and Cork Street London, The Beaney Canterbury and as part of East Kent Artists Open Houses

As a painter printmaker I work from my studio in a chestnut coppice in Boughton under Blean and in The Print Block at Whitstable.
I am interested in my local woodland farmland, landscape and the sea illuminated by failing light and the moon and the traces left by past inhabitants. I constantly re-visit preferred sites, then re-work and re-order, taking walks in the woods at night and exploring the coast by day. My explorations investigate beyond the evident as I seek to reveal images as ciphers and signs of the unknown.
I portray an inner landscape where we can experience a sense of rhythmic energy and vitality in observation, reminding us of where we have come from and our ultimate destiny.
Most of my works consist of screen-prints, etchings, drawings, gesso and graphite panels and handmade artist’s books.

Ruth is currently exhibiting at The Green Chair Gallery until October 7.
